Clay is an abundant, naturally occurring, finegrained material composed predominantly of hydrous aluminum silies. Clay is not a single mineral, but a number of minerals. Clays fall into six general egories: kaolin, ball clays, fire clays, bentonite, common clays and Fuller's earth.
